The worst thing about the TouchBar is how the part I should love—the TouchID sensor/button—feels like crap. When pressed, the button feels cheap—very different in feel from the iPhone TouchID button—and the software takes many seconds to react. It’s much faster to manually log in (and don’t talk to me about using the Watch to unlock the MBP—almost never works for me). I actually dread using TouchID because how the experience ruins the initial impression of using the computer.

All of this has me VERY worried about all the iPhone 8 rumors about face detection unlock. For the first time in many years, this MacBook Pro is making me doubt Apple’s ability to focus on the user experience, above introducing gimmicky features.
